Licensing model
Quatm follows an open-core model. The runtime is open source; the complete laboratory platform is licensed separately.
Open-source core
Quatm Core is released under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 (AGPL-3.0). It includes the experiment runtime, physics models, servers and shared utilities. The licence permits inspection, modification and self-hosting, subject to its terms.
If a modified version is made available as a network service, the AGPL requires the operator to offer the corresponding source to users of that service.
Commercial platform
Quatm Platform is proprietary software. It includes the desktop interface, web console, licensing layer, analysis and monitoring tools, and the vendor driver catalogue. It is licensed under separate commercial terms.
The public core and the commercial platform are developed together but distributed separately. Installing Quatm Core does not grant a licence to the commercial platform.
When a commercial licence is required
A commercial licence is appropriate when the AGPL obligations cannot be met or when the intended deployment falls outside them, including:
- distributing Quatm as part of a closed-source product or service;
- embedding proprietary modifications without disclosing the corresponding AGPL source;
- providing a commercial service whose terms are incompatible with the AGPL;
- requiring the commercial platform, vendor drivers or formal support.
Commercial licensing does not restrict the rights granted by the AGPL to the open-source core.
